  1. Team associated B6.4 with aluminum steering bits is the best.

  2. Be careful. Racing is as addictive and RC cars themselves. I stared with racing in 1996 and picked up the Tmiya bug during the Covid-19 nightmare. I had to buile the RX Tamiya for the "Since 1996" because that's when I started racing.

  3. It's 1am and I have been enjoying my cheap blended scotch. I meant to say, I have been into RC racing since 1996 and into Tamiya since the covid 19 outbake. I always say, "if you can't have fun coming in last in RC racing, you need a different hobby". Have great fun. Love your channel.

  4. You have the right idea. talk to the fast guys and pick up on what they tell you.
Remember, to finish first, you must fist finish. Hope you love racing as much as I did/do.

  5. Are you having fun? Because that is what it is all about. If it;s not fun, WHY DO IT????

  6. Great video, glad you enjoyed your day and your times were going in the right direction. As for cars, I run in two classes, i've got a TLR 22x-4 in the 4 wheel class but in the 2 wheel, i love my TRL 22 5.0 although i've never run a Team Associate so I can't compare the two.

Fantastic mate. Inspired me to go to my first meeting Saturday just gone. Had a great time and your tip’s definitely helped. Ask for help is the main thing. Everyone is more than happy to help newcomers. If anyone is still on the fence. Go !! You’ll love it.

  8. marksapollo says:

Watching you is making me think of popping along to my local club, although they only seem to race hot hatch and GT12, I would have a go at GT12. Would need a car though. Funny how GT12 has replaced Touring Cars in a way, lot cheaper though!

  9. turbo boost says:

Off course you have to stay at Schumacher! Why not a 4wd? The L1R would be the best car to get!

  10. Gordon Wire says:

Really enjoyed seeing you go racing.!! At least you are giving it a go.?? Maybe you need a Schumacher Ld2.?? Or you could have at look at Xray.!!

  11. Pablo668 says:

That was pretty cool. Practice makes progress. Car looks relatively planted to me, not that I'd know….
I mean, it's no OG Ultima ahem!

  12. Andy Crute says:

Associated b6.4 is stronger and has a bigger set up window
Schumacher ld2 is designed more for carpet racing. Both really great cars, might be worth buying the same car as the most popular at the club for spares and set up tips

  13. Alex Ager says:

I'd prefer to see your experience with a modern Schumacher rather than a Team Associated. Several reasons, mainly because I think the Associated already has been covered quite a lot by other Youtubers but also because it would be interesting to see how your experience compares with the vintage Schumacher cougar you have now.

  14. If you're looking at a modern 2wd, The Associated b6.4 is my recommendation. The LD2 is a great buggy, but they very sensitive to even the smallest errors in set up, where the B6.4 has a bigger set-up window and is more forgiving in general to drive. It's also my opinion that the overall quality and durability is better. I found In Two seasons with the LD2 that I ended up chasing my tail on setup, not enjoying the meetings as much. With the B6.4, it just seems easier to undertand where you need to change setup.

  15. SEAN says:

Great video Gavin 👍, that intro was excellent! That must have taken a while to shoot and edit, it came across as professionally done, it was great! As for your experience at the track, it has got me wondering if I should dip my toe in the world of racing 🤔.

  16. Hew Williams says:

Great Stuff! I've just started racing myself and it's fun fun fun! I'm using the exact same rtr buggy as well (needs a lot of front weight). I've just picked up a second hand X-ray Xb2C and I think they are the nuts! I've been helped out loads at my club (Faversham Off Road Racing Club) and despite having anxiety issues I am so glad I started racing!

  17. For the modern class it’s always best to see what is most popular at the track. It’s usually a sign of what works best and has best parts availability

  18. Steve D says:

I have an LD2 and Associated B6.3 for racing indoors on carpet. The associated is incredibly strong compared to the Schumacher and relatively forgiving of you don’t get the setup spot on. I would recommend the Associated

  19. Good Job Gavin, you could definitely see the improvement throughout the heats and finals. Keep at it. One of the biggest things i see, more so at club level is new racers giving up to early because their not instantly good , or going to fast to soon and most importantly, taking it to seriously and forget we’re playing with toy cars, I even need to remind myself on occasion 😉

  20. Dean Cory says:

    Associated. In vintage and modern

  21. turbod150 says:

Good video your racing has improved a lot . I have a cougar classic i want to try racing with, what spares did you use/recommend to purchase . which tyres did you use.

  22. This is a great video and it will give a lot of encouragement to new drivers. I would choose Associated. I think all of the Youtubers you raced against were running Associated. You will be able to learn from their setups.

  23. Lee Mollison says:

There is nothing that helps your RC car driving skill improve like racing does, Anyone can wazz their car around unconfined and make it look like they can drive, but when you have to keep within the confines of a track, all of a sudden your limits become obvious to you. Looks like you have got what it takes Gavin, there were some nice clean laps in there, really good to watch – A fantastic improvement from your first meet, and immensely satisfying I bet! Really liking the fact some of my favourite youtubers are going racing, it is one of the core RC activities that keeps the hobby alive. (- and this from a currently retired racer that loves building shelf queens more than anything, and bashed skate parks before cars that could handle them well were invented!) Just got myself a Schumacher Storm ST, which I will wazz around at the park and dirt bmx tracks nearby, when I get real comfortable with it I will be going to do a bit of casual racing at the local 1/10 offroad track(dirt/clay), which is a really nice family oriented place. Inspiring stuff mate! 😁

  24. James Perdue says:

    Schumacher ld2 for sure

  25. I am going to enjoy following your journey into RC racing. I have been wanting to get into racing myself, but there was this coronavirus thing and the only local club had to stop due to financial issues and their track dismantled for a wind turbine last year. I'll just stick with rock crawling/trail running for now.

  26. Honestly, watching some of your racing lines, you wouldn’t guess that this was your 2nd ever attempt! Some real confidence on what was quite a tight, tricky but fast track, I’m impressed! Getting some practice/experience with the vintage buggy in what is a more relaxed class is probably a good idea for a bit. But if you do decide to move over to a modern buggy, you can’t go to far wrong with any of the more recent offerings from Associated or Schumacher (I run a B6, which is quite old now, but is still pretty competitive) I’d actually recommend not doing more than one class on a race day, firstly cause you are flipping between two quite different cars to drive, which takes some adjustment time for even an experienced racer, but also it makes the day busier & potentially more stressful, especially if you experience breakages. Also you lose a bit of the social side, which for many of us is a big reason to go racing. PS; keep up the good work & keep enjoying it 👍

  27. Mike Upton says:

Awesome! Your a better person than me. I never did off road racing with
R/C because of the breakage issue. And a lack of skill. Was lucky to survive (my cars) dirt and paved oval for couple of seasons.
Doesn't both Tamiya and Kyosho have new from the ground up 2wd buggies?

  28. “Yeah I’m not l a s t” I’ve never said that before lies all lies 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤙

The support your getting from your fellow racers be it borrowing spares or setup advice is a reason I also stress to anyone who is on the next level of starting out, The you’ve tried it and now your addicted, and want a better car/truck/? the inevitable question of what should I get? arises the answer is always what’s supported by your local shop and what’s popular with everyone at the track.

  29. Racing is really addictive I'm loving racing myself always something to improve or learn….still searching for the perfect lap 🤣👍👍
    Great video

  30. Looks like you've got the racing bug. When are you going to try on-road? M-chassis is so much fun!

  31. John Dean says:

If u are getting a modern 2wd get an xray or associated .schumacher are awesome but if u crash a lot u will soon get pissed off replacing swing arms

  32. Jay Mac says:

Carpet buggy racing is so much fun. I did it briefly in the nineties. I've always loved Schumacher cats they're so smooth. 😍

  33. Tony Cluley says:

A suggestion. Try a dab of brake when you are going up the ramp and having to turn left.. This should stop you breaking the front shock mount.

  34. akceller8 says:

I think you are too self deprecating in your driving, I see people who've been racing for months crashing way more than did. As Carl said "slow is fast" and you took that onboard for a very accomplished drive for a 2nd time racer.
May I also say that your filming of your racing was probably the best currently on YouTube for watching your race. The head-mount camera followed your car nicely and the field of view was wide enough to get the context of the track without making the car too distant.
    Well done.

PS, if you ever want to get one of your beautiful rally cars dirty I can recommend a great RallyX track down in Kent.

  35. I’m blown away with the difference from your first race, night and day. You were up against some good drivers as well in you heat. Great racing 👍

  36. Jeremy N says:

    A fellow W211 owner, nice 👍

  37. Looks so fun! What age car would be classed vintage? I have a cougar sv I want to have a go round a track with it
