What actually makes a car a drift car
Hard plastic or PVC tyres
This is the single defining component. Drift tyres are hard, smooth and deliberately low-grip so the rear breaks traction predictably. Fitting drift tyres to an ordinary touring car is the cheapest way to try the discipline — and fitting grippy rubber to a drift car turns it back into a touring car.
Counter-steer or 1:1 drivetrain
Counter-steer (CS) gearing spins the front wheels faster than the rear, which pulls the car through the slide and makes long drifts far easier to hold. A 1:1 setup is more neutral and closer to real drifting — harder to learn, more rewarding once you can.
Gyro assistance
A gyro applies tiny automatic steering corrections, exactly as a real drifter’s hands would. On a beginner car it is close to essential; experienced drivers dial it down as their reflexes catch up.
Steering angle
Drift-specific chassis allow far more steering lock than a racing car. More angle means bigger, more dramatic slides and more room to recover from a mistake.

Where to drift
Drifting needs a smooth, hard, low-grip surface — a garage floor, a smooth patio, polished concrete or an empty car park.
